Welcome

Welcome to MYBA

The board of Methuen Youth Basketball would like to welcome you to the start of the basketball season. The purpose of our league is to provide the youth who reside or attend school in Methuen with a quality basketball program.  Through the help of the parents and coaches, we strive to teach our children the skills and basic strategies of the game while encouraging sportsmanship and the forging of new friendships. All players are eligible to participate in our in house program while those who strive for a more competitive environment can try out for a travel team. Travel players MUST be Methuen residents. Simply attending a Methuen school does not make a player eligible for travel. Our program utilizes the gyms of all of the public schools in Methuen.

During the 2015 season we added third graders and restructured the age groups for our in-house program.

At the start of the 2016-2017 season we made several changes to the structure of the league including eliminating separate leagues for the girls and boys in-house programs. There will be girls and boys divisions under the same management and rules.
We have also revamped the coach selection and tryout process for travel teams as we strive to make the process as transparent and fair as possible.
We are confident that these changes will make our league better than ever!

In addition to the regular season, MYBA sponsors the annual Kenneth E Waldie Tip Off Classic and the Blood Tournament. Proceeds from the tournaments led to the distribution of over $7500.00 in scholarships in 2016 alone. Since 2001, MYBA through the two annual tournaments has donated over $70,500.00 in scholarships. The funds raise by the tournaments have also led to town wide sponsorships including the flag pole at the MHS field hockey/baseball field,  the scorers table in the field house, new wireless scoreboards at the CGS and new uniforms and financial support for the boys and girls varsity basketball teams and much more.
In 2014 MYBA donated a $16,000.00 sound system to the Larry Klimas Memorial Field House in memory of Coach Bill Blood.
In 2015 MYBA donated a $7,500.00 window tinting in the large gym at the Timony Grammer School.
In total, MYBA has donated over $195,000.00 since 2001.

This season we will have approximately 700 players on 60 teams. Our coaches and directors are all volunteer. We are always looking for people who want to make a difference through coaching or the running of the league and tournaments. If you would like to become involved as a volunteer, please contact any of the board members.

Thank you,
Dan Labelle
